Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova delivered a speech at the 11th meeting of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkic-Speaking Countries on 24 June.

Sahiba Gafarova referred to the rather topic-packed agendas of both the Council meeting and the plenary sitting as a vivid sign of the level set by the co-operation in the TurkPA and said she was certain that the forthcoming discussions and the resolutions that would be passed at both were going to contribute importantly to the achievement of the goals standing before the entity. Azerbaijan considers the activities under the aegis of the TurkPA to be of utmost importance and the Milli Majlis is supporting them in every way, Mrs Gafarova continued.

The co-operation amongst the participating parliaments has evolved during the past period. The thematically diverse commission meetings and the seminars dedicated to the matters of concern to our countries, the drafting of model laws, the arrangement of elections and referenda monitoring missions as well as the combined efforts made within the walls of international parliamentary organisations, too, had come as clear indications of the efficient joint endeavours, according to Mrs Gafarova.

The TurkPA commission meetings, seminars, conferences and meetings have been organised by the Milli Majlis in Baku since the 10th plenary sitting. On the other hand, members of the national parliaments had travelled to the territories of Azerbaijan de-occupied consequent to the 44 days’ Patriotic War and had been able to eye-witness the atrocities and the vandalism committed there by Armenia during the occupation period as well as had become aware of the large-scale restoration and reconstruction work that our country is continuing in her liberated lands.

The Chair of the Milli Majlis said she was certain of continued joint efforts to make certain that the Assembly would go on contributing valuably to the provision of the interests shared by our nations and countries which are bound together with the common historical roots as well as the equally common cultural and spiritual pivots.

Chairman of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Mustafa Şentop, Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Kazakhstan Parliament Yerlan Qoşanov and Chairman of Kyrgyzstan’s Joğorqu Keñeş Talant Mamytov spoke at the TurkPA Council meeting, too: they shared their ideas about the topics at issue.
