Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia Ana Brnabić  in the course of her working visit to the country.

Greeting the Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia Ana Brnabić described Azerbaijan as a friendly and allied country to Serbia and said that the two countries’ relations were progressing with each passing day. The Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia thanked the Speaker of the Milli Majlis for her participation in the IPU Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians.

The Speaker of the National Assembly talked about the significance of the economic relations present between our countries, including their energy co-operation, and expressed gratitude for Azerbaijan’s support in the energy security area.

As the conversation unfolded, Ana Brnabić shared thoughts about the prospects of the relations between the Parliaments of the two countries.

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova mentioned the high organisational standards set by the IPU Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians before remarking that such events were remarkable platforms upon which to discuss existing problems.

As she was talking about the outstanding role of reciprocal high-level and summit visits between our friendly countries which are also strategic partners, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova stressed in this context the significance of the reciprocal visits of President Ilham Aliyev and President Aleksandar Vučić, and the importance of the documents signed during those visits. It was said that the signing of the agreement during the February 2026 visit of President Ilham Aliyev to build a Gas-Turbine Power Plant in Serbia serves the continued development of the co-operation in the energy sector.

The significance of humanitarian co-operation, too, was pointed up during the meeting alongside that in the economic and political realms.

Referring during the conversation to the Parliaments’ favourable impact on the progress of the relations, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova emphasised the role of the reciprocal groups of friendship in the advancement of the inter-parliamentary connections, expressed satisfaction with the co-operation in international parliamentary organisations and especially our countries’ mutual support in matters of territorial integrity and sovereignty, and touched upon the possibility of organising co-operation amongst parliamentary committees.
