Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has met with King of Bahrain Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa during the official visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain.

At the meeting, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova passed on to the King of Bahrain the greetings of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

King of Bahrain Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, in turn, asked that his greetings be relayed to the President of Azerbaijan.

 The King of Bahrain spoke about the development of Azerbaijan and the importance of the further deepening of bilateral relations during the meeting. He also emphasised the positive role of the parliaments in expanding the ties between our countries.

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova remarked in the course of the conversation that the Azerbaijan-Bahrain relations are built upon friendship, mutual trust and respect, adding also that the political ties existing between our countries give rise to ample co-operation opportunities in other fields including the economic, investment and touristic ones. She recalled the 30^th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Bahrain coming this year. Contentment was also expressed at the meeting with our amiable countries’ mutual support in international organisations.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova observed that that was the first official visit of Speaker of the Milli Majlis to the Kingdom of Bahrain before emphasising that reciprocal visits of Speaker of Parliament as well as of MPs, and close contacts serve the cause of a continued deepening of the bonds between the legislative bodies. She told about the meetings held during the visit and gave information about the issues related to co-operation between our parliaments.

The meeting saw an exchange of opinions about other matters of shared interest as well.
