Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has met with the President of the Arab Parliament Mohamed Alyammahi in Cairo as part of a working visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova expressed satisfaction with the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Muslim countries and emphasised that our ties are based on shared religious, cultural and spiritual values at the meeting.

As was noted, inter-parliamentary co-operation plays a significant role also in the advancement of the relations between our countries. As remarked, amongst other things, the Milli Majlis has close ties with the Arab Parliament and the parliaments of the Member Countries. Satisfaction was voiced at that delegations of the parliaments of several Arab countries had participated in the International Parliamentary Conference dedicated to the 30^th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan and held in Baku recently.

Mohamed Alyammahi remarked at the meeting that Azerbaijan holds a special place for Arab states. He conveyed congratulations on the 30^th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the 5^th anniversary of Victory Day on 8 November.

The significance of joint activities of the Milli Majlis and the Arab Parliament also at the international level was remarked upon during the conversation. Furthermore, they mentioned the great importance that the Arab Parliament attaches to the relations with the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, established on the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev and currently chaired by the Milli Majlis. As was emphasised, the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement has an observer status with the Arab Parliament whilst the Arab Parliament participates in all events of the Parliamentary Network.

Issues concerning further expansion of the ties between the Milli Majlis and the Arab Parliament were also considered, and the importance of continuing joint efforts in this direction was high-lit at the meeting.
