Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova, currently in Cambodia for the 43rd General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, met with Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco Rachid Talbi Al-Alami on 23 November.

Sahiba Gafarova greeted Rachid Talbi Al-Alami and recalled fondly their meeting on the margins of the first conference of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, established upon the instance of President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, in Baku in June this year. She also voiced her pleasure at the Moroccan Parliament’s participation in that conference as well as the constituent congress of the NAM PN in Madrid in 2021.

Mrs Gafarova supplied the Moroccan colleague with exhaustive information about the activities of the Network, its perspective job list and the undertakings being implemented under the Azerbaijani chairmanship for the sake of the organisation’s institutional growth – inclusive of the organisation work being done as run-up to the Network’s second conference slated to take place in Manama. Being Chair of the Network, Sahiba Gafarova added, she made every effort to broaden its co-operation with the other inter-parliamentary organisations. The compilation of the delegations of the PN member-parliaments goes on duly, too.

The common religious and cultural bases of our nations are a tremendous factor in the Azerbaijani-Moroccan relationship the growth of which is also promoted uniquely by the bilateral inter-parliamentary co-operation as well, according to Mrs Gafarova. The work done by the friendship groups of both countries’ legislatures is very commendable. Besides, we have the practical instances of information exchange of our MPs and of their fruitful collaboration in international parliamentary entities alike.

Azerbaijan liberated her lands from the occupation that had last for close to thirty years in 2020; in that way, the country made her national territory whole again. A new situation emerged across the region after the erstwhile conflict had been resolved. As for now, Azerbaijan is busy restoring her de-occupied provinces. Mrs Gafarova filled Mr Al-Alami in on the extensive work under way to that end. Azerbaijan always wishes peace and is taking steps to ensure peace and security in the region. Armenia, meanwhile, is not autonomous; it is uncapable of following an independent political course. Rather, this state shows a destructive position and makes contradictory and controversial statement whereas it had best refrain from such moves and take real steps towards concluding a peace treaty instead, according to Mrs Gafarova.

Azerbaijan respects all the states’ sovereignty and territorial wholeness, expecting the same attitude to herself.

Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco Rachid Talbi Al-Alami witnessed his satisfaction with the visit he had paid to Azerbaijan earlier this year and shared the favourable impressions our country’s progress had left on him.

Morocco pays close attention to activities under the auspices of the Non-Aligned Movement and co-operation within its Parliamentary Network is no exclusion. Morocco finds the Azerbaijani chairmanship of the PN to be successful and is totally behind it, according to Mr Al-Alami.

There are good relations between our countries; to be specific, this is true of the inter-parliamentary links as well. Mr Al-Alami underscored the work done by the friendship groups and bridging our legislatures. The head of the Moroccan Parliament also spoke favourably of the mutual support between our states in regard to their territorial integrity.

Other matters of mutual interest were also talked about as the conversation progressed.
