Chair of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Talks to Chair of Mejlis of Turkmen Parliament

On 30 June, Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting with Chair of the Mejlis (lower chamber) of the Milli Geňeş (parliament) of Turkmenistan Gulshat Mammadova who had come to Azerbaijan for the Baku Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network.

As she welcomed the guest, Sahiba Gafarova also thanked her for taking part in the NAM PN Baku Conference dedicated to the vital subject of enhancing national parliaments’ roles in promoting peace and sustainable development in the world.

President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan had put forth valuable ideas about the current global situation in his address at the conference. His statements are key to defining the operating vectors of the Movement, according to Mrs Gafarova.

The Baku Conference of the NAM PN incepted specifically upon the instance of the leader of Azerbaijan is of tremendous importance in terms of promoting co-operation amongst the parliaments of the NAM member-states.

Mrs Gafarova then broached the progress of the relations between our friendly and brotherly countries, highlit the huge contribution to it coming from the high-status reciprocal visits, recalled the Azerbaijani President’s visit to Turkmenistan a few days back and said that the conversations held during it mattered considerably for the on-going strengthening of the mutual relations.

Having underscored the weighty contribution of the Azerbaijani and Turkmen legislatures to the advancement of those relations, Sahiba Gafarova then lauded the appropriate efforts made by the working groups for inter-parliamentary connexions.

Chair of the Mejlis of the Milli Geňeş Gulshat Mammadova voiced her satisfaction with the visit to Azerbaijan, underscored the significance of the NAM PN Baku Conference, thanked for the invitation to join it, praised the address of the Azerbaijani President at the event and touched on the fundamental topics covered by that address. Mrs Mammadova thanked the Azerbaijani side for the high standards in the conference arrangement and mentioned the acclaim won by this initiative of Azerbaijan.

Also, she spoke highly of the co-operation between the legislative assemblies of the two countries, saying that its current level was a source of satisfaction.

Then, Mrs Mammadova talked about the deep historical roots and the common spiritual and cultural values uniting our nations. She also spoke of the necessity of preserving all those for the coming generations.

Other matters of shared interest were discussed as well.
