Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting on 30 June with Chairman of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Mustafa Şentop who was in our capital city for the Baku Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network.

Sahiba Gafarova mentioned after the greetings had been exchanged today’s Baku Conference of the NAM Parliamentary Network, incepted in Madrid upon the instance of President Ilham Aliyev. The topicality of the conference, which is boosting the roles of national parliaments in promoting peace and sustainable development world-wide, is rather very to the point what with the weight of parliamentary diplomacy gaining in gravity around the world with each passing day.

The speech of President Ilham Aliyev at the NAM PN conference is crucial as his valuable ideas about the global-profile developments within the NAM matter in terms of routing the organisation’s work, Mrs Gafarova was saying to Mr Şentop.

Such events as the one set for today are absolutely necessary for the on-going progress of co-operation amongst the NAM national parliaments.

Regarding the current level of the Azerbaijani-Turkish connexions, it once again tells of our unity and solidarity – the unity which was manifested the most vividly through Turkey’s unequivocal political and moral support extended to Azerbaijan at the time of the 44 days’ Patriotic War.

The 15th of June is the day of the first anniversary of the Shusha Declaration of the alliance of Azerbaijan and Turkey. The resolve and will of the two republics’ leaders had elevated the alliance of the latter to its highest point marked by the inking of the Shusha Declaration in Azerbaijan’s cultural capital. That document, whilst speaking of the very essence of the friendship and brotherhood of our countries, also defines the new goals and targets arising before them.

Chair of the GNAT Mustafa Şentop thanked for the sincere talk before underscoring the importance of the NAM PN inception in Madrid at the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and with the involvement of Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova. Mr Şentop praised Mr Ilham Aliyev’s speech at the Baku Conference and stressed the momentousness of the topics that the Head of State had covered in his address.

Mr Şentop also spoke of the high organisational standards of the NAM PN Baku Conference, said his thanks for it and mentioned the acclaim won by this initiative of Azerbaijan. Turkey, he said, would always be supporting the fraternal Azerbaijan and would also be right by Azerbaijan’s side. The NAM PN Baku Conference matters very much because it had brought together the parliamentarians representing our nations so they could discuss fundamental issues and essential topics here, Mr Şentop remarked.

Going further, the Chair of the GNAT emphasised the need to continue developing and strengthening the world-unparalleled relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan. Other matters of shared interest were discussed, too, as the conversation drew on.
