Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting on 29 June with Chair of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva who had come to Azerbaijan on an official visit.

Mrs Gafarova told Mrs Narbayeva that she was glad to welcome her at the Milli Majlis before touching upon the common religious and moral values of our nations and saying that the Azerbaijani-Uzbek relations had set higher standards since our countries had become independent states. Mrs Gafarova also pinpointed the special role of the reciprocal visits of the heads of the states in the context of the bilateral relations’ advancement.

The recent state visit of President Ilham Aliyev of the Azerbaijan Republic to Uzbekistan and the documents signed during it were mentioned as the driving force imparted to the strategic partnership of our countries and its development. Whilst in Uzbekistan, President Aliyev described the inauguration of a monument of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev as well as of the square and a park in the centre of Tashkent carrying his name as a sign of affection towards the people of Azerbaijan.

Uzbekistan has always supported Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity; our countries have the effective co-operation going under the aegis of the international organisations, Sahiba Gafarova was saying with pleasure.

Our legislative assemblies are a special impetus in the process of deepening the bilateral relations; there are the friendship groups in action in both assemblies, too, continued the Speaker of the Milli Majlis.

Besides, Mrs Narbayeva was told about Azerbaijan’s victory in the 44-day Patriotic War and the new reality that had set in across our region. She was told also that Azerbaijan had made her national territory whole again and put an end to the occupation with that victory. Our country wants perpetual peace and stability in the region; right now, Azerbaijan is occupied with the big work being done to restore and recreate her liberated territories, Mrs Gafarova said, thanking Uzbekistan for her help with building a school in Fuzuli Province and referring to that help as a friendly gift to Azerbaijan.

Chair of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva said her thanks for the hospitality and mentioned the successful progression of the Uzbek-Azerbaijani connexions in many areas. She had visited Azerbaijan more than once, had been under different impressions each time and was glad of the speedy development of our country under the guidance of President Ilham Aliyev, Mrs Narbayeva told her Azerbaijani colleague.

Further, Mrs Narbayeva underlined the importance of the Azerbaijani-Uzbek forum of businesswomen she had attended earlier today and extended her appreciation to the Azerbaijani side for the invitation to take part in the Baku Conference of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement slated for tomorrow.

Talking about the joint role of the parliament in the evolution of the bilateral relations, too, Tanzila Narbayeva put the spotlight on the need to foster the links on the plane of the parliamentary committees as well.

The leader of the Uzbek Senate expressed a confidence that the freed provinces of Azerbaijan would be restored to high standards soon enough and that the internally displaced people will go back to their native parts.

The head of the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan inter-parliamentary connexions working group Eldar Ibrahimov, the group’s Zahid Oruj, Rashad Mahmudov, Javanshir Pashazade and Agalar Valiyev, Chief of the Milli Majlis Staff Farid Hajiyev, the Azerbaijani and Uzbek ambassadors Huseyn Guliyev and Bahrom Ashrafkhanov and other officials took part in the meeting, too.
