Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has met on 16 May the recently-arrived Chairman of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Nurdinjon Ismoilov and the delegation he leads.

The head of the Azerbaijani legislature welcomed the guests warmly and told them that their arrival was bound to contribute to the continuing progress of the relations between our states and their parliaments. Mrs Gafarova added that the conversations had and the documents signed during supreme and high-level visits had produced the building-blocks of the on-going intensification of our relations. Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are friendly and brotherly countries; our nations are bound by the common cultural and moral principles, which, in turn, guarantees the future advancement of our relations.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova referred to the role played by the parliaments in the system of inter-state relations and mentioned the productive interaction between Azerbaijani and Uzbek MPs upon various international platforms as well as their hands-on involvement in the work of the entities like the TurkPA and the PAECO. Incidentally, meetings taking place within the frameworks of gatherings like the upcoming conference are tremendously important as they provide for discussions about matters of significance to all the sides. The operations of the friendship groups of both parliaments are very laudable; reciprocal visits of MPs matter as much because they create opportunities to exchange experience and information.

The parliamentary delegation of Uzbekistan currently in Azerbaijan on an official visit will take part in the PAECO Third General Conference and state its views upon the matters included in the conference agenda, Mrs Gafarova remarked.

Azerbaijan’s big victory in the 44 days’ Patriotic War and our country’s having liberated her lands including her cultural capital of Shusha by its own devices under the leadership of Commander-in-Chief/President Ilham Aliyev after thirty years of Armenian occupation were talked of then. Those lands are being restored, rebuilt and rearranged now; big work is being done to that end, according to the Speaker of the Milli Majlis.

Chairman of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Nurdinjon Ismoilov expressed his appreciation of the cordial reception and said he was pleased with the visit and with the hospitality extended to him and his delegation alike. The bilateral relations had moved on to a new level qualitatively with our countries having regained independence; high-status mutual visits serve the cause of making the relationship stronger, in the opinion of Mr Ismoilov.

The work done by both parliaments’ friendship groups is having a favourable effect on the growth of the inter-parliamentary connexions in general. Incidentally, there are opportunities to intensify this kind of interaction, according to Mr Ismoilov. Members of our parliaments have built joint activities under the aegis of international assemblies including the PAECO, and this is really rather important. The agenda of the oncoming PAECO conference in Baku deals with such matters as occupy the minds in the member-states; the scheduled event is momentous in that it will make it possible to exchange opinions about all those issues.

The Uzbek guest praised Azerbaijan’s victory in the 44-day Patriotic War and expressed satisfaction with the progress of our country.

The leader of the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan inter-parliamentary connexions working group Eldar Ibrahimov, the MPs Agalar Valiyev, Afat Hasanova and Aghiya Nakhchivanli, the ambassador of Azerbaijan in Tashkent Huseyn Guliyev, the ambassador of Uzbekistan in Baku Bahrom Ashrafkhanov and other officials also took part in the meeting.

After the conversation had been over, Nurdinjon Ismoilov made a heartfelt entry in the Memory Book of the Milli Majlis.
