Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a conversation with Secretary General of the Economic Co-operation Organisation (ECO) Khusrav Noziri on 16 May.

Following the sincere welcome given to the guest, the speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament told him that Azerbaijan’s ECO membership would turn thirty years in 2022 and talked about the successful co-operation kept up all through the past period.

Azerbaijan is interested in expansion of mutually advantageous co-operation with a view to tapping most effectively the economic potential of the region in which she is situated. Our country always supports endeavours to arrange international economic co-operation and promote integration, including, as Mrs Gafarova stressed, via the national contribution to the work done by the ECO.

As the meeting continued, Sahiba Gafarova touched on such subjects as solidifying the Azerbaijan-ECO relationship, Azerbaijan’s victory in the 44-day Patriotic War and the new situation in the region following the conflict’s resolution, the work done to restore and rebuild the liberated territories, the importance of resuming communications and establishing new corridors and the run-up to the Third General Conference of the PAECO in Baku, amongst others.

General Secretary Khusrav Noziri thanked Sahiba Gafarova for the meeting and for the hospitality he had been met with; he said then that that was his second travel to Azerbaijan and that our country had made considerable progress.

Mr Noziri described Azerbaijan as one of the more active ECO members and praised that active position as well as the preparations made for the conduct of the PAECO Third General Conference.
