Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting with the visiting Deputy Chair of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Balaim Kesebaeva on 16 May.

Welcoming the guest who had come to Azerbaijan for the Third general conference of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Economic Co-operation Organisation, Sahiba Gafarova proceeded to touch upon our nations’ bonds of friendship and fraternity as well as their shared cultural and moral pillars. The Azerbaijani-Uzbek brotherhood, established over the course of history, had gained in strength since the two countries had become independent; the thirtieth anniversary of our diplomatic relations is due this year, Sahiba Gafarova was saying.

Madame Speaker recalled her official visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan and the conversations conducted during it; that visit and those conversations had brought an input of their own into the deepening of the inter-parliamentary connexions that serve as a bridge between our countries, Madame Speaker remarked. In this relation, Sahiba Gafarova talked about the significance of the work that the inter-parliamentary friendship groups are doing. Our parliamentarians, she continued, co-operated fruitfully not only in the TurkPA but also in other international organisations including the Parliamentary Assembly of the ECO. Also, Mrs Gafarova referred to the importance of the subjects tabled at the PAECO Second General Conference in Pakistan, which she had taken part in. Matters of equalling weight will be discussed at the PAECO Third General Conference due to take place in Baku tomorrow, according to the speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament.

Azerbaijan’s victory in the 44-day Patriotic War was brought up then. It was said that Azerbaijan had freed its lands – including the town of Shusha, which is the cradle of the Azerbaijani culture – from the Armenian occupation of nearly thirty years consequent to that war. The participants of the PAECO Third General Conference will be able to get to know this beautiful town intimately during their earmarked trip to it, by the way.

Thanking for the hospitality, Vice Speaker of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Balaim Kesebaeva said that she was in Azerbaijan for the first time and that she was pleased with the visit. She said her thanks for the invitation to come to our country.

Mrs Kesebaeva spoke about the common values of our nations and the considerable progress of our relationship throughout the years of independence. As regards the inter-parliamentary connexions, their advancement matters in terms of the continued intensification of the bilateral relations, in the opinion of Mrs Kesebaeva.

Other matters of mutual interest were touched on during the conversation, too.

The ambassador of Kazakhstan in Baku Serjan Abdikarimov and other officials were taking part in the meeting as well.
