Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova meets with Prosecutor General of Uzbekistan

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met on 20 July with the delegation led by Prosecutor General of the Republic of Uzbekistan Nigmatilla Yuldoshev who is visiting in our country.

Issues related to the strategic alliance between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan and to the inter-parliamentary ties, judicial and legislative co-operation and interaction in international organisations were discussed at the meeting.

The Speaker of the Milli Majlis observed that the relations of our countries are based on brotherhood, friendship and mutual trust. She emphasised the immense role of the dialogue built between President of Azerbaijan Mr Ilham Aliyev and President of Uzbekistan Mr Shavkat Mirziyoyev and based on sincere friendship and confidence in our inter-state connections’ having reached the qualitatively new level of a strategic alliance. The fruitful co-operation between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan in international organisations and the countries’ consistent support of each other’s stances upon international platforms were mentioned, too.

As the conversation unfolded, the Speaker of Parliament recalled fondly her visits to Uzbekistan and the meetings held there, and underscored the significance of the friendship groups and MPs’ reciprocal visits for the progress of our relations.

Sahiba Gafarova told the guest about the history of the Azerbaijani Parliament, its remarkable position in the Islamic East and the path it has negotiated as well as the difficult political challenges and threats to statehood that our country had faced upon restoring her sovereignty. It was remarked that the National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s return to power upon the firm insistence of the nation was of utmost historic importance for the preservation of Azerbaijan’s independence, strengthening of her statehood and setting foot on the path of stable development.

The guest was made aware of the operating priorities of the current convocation of the Milli Majlis and of the work done in parliamentary diplomacy, improvement of the legislative system and enforcement of the supremacy of law principle. The relevant significance of the constructive co-operation between the Milli Majlis and the General Prosecution Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan was underlined as well.

Prosecutor General of the Republic of Uzbekistan Nigmatilla Yuldoshev remarked his witnessing our country’s dynamic advancement in every visit to Azerbaijan and said that the Uzbek side followed the successes as they are achieved with intense contentment. He praised highly the large-scale restoration and reconstruction work apace in the de-occupied territories of Azerbaijan as a vivid manifestation of the country’s high creative potential. The guest praised as highly the steps Azerbaijan has taken to build sustainable peace in the South Caucasus and her contribution to generation of new regional co-operation opportunities.

Nigmatilla Yuldoshev referred to the successful development of the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan inter-parliamentary connections, stressing that this co-operation was one of the dramatic facets of the two countries’ relations.

The considerable role of inter-parliamentary co-operation in the furtherance of the relations between the countries was mentioned in the conversation. It was said confidently that the effective co-operation built between the Parliaments of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan will be continued successfully.

They also exchanged opinions about several other matters of shared interest.
