Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova meets with Participants of 3rd Meeting of Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Northern Cyprus Parliaments’ Friendship Groups
Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has met with the participants of the 3rd meeting of the Friendship Groups of the Parliaments of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Welcoming the delegations led by Speaker of the Majlis of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Head of the Northern Cyprus-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group Ziya Öztürkler and Head of the Türkiye-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group Şamil Ayrım, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova quoted President Ilham Aliyev’s thought ‘Our family is the Turkic World’, saying then that the steps aimed to strengthen the relations between our countries and peoples further, too, reflect that idea of our Head of State.
It was said as the conversation went on that those relations continue as successfully on the level of the Parliaments – the representatives of our peoples; the co-operation amongst our legislative bodies, both bilaterally and in the trilateral format, was referred to as well. The importance of the trilateral format of the Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Northern Cyprus inter-parliamentary relations Working Groups was brought up in this respect, and it was said that the meetings held in this co-operation format regularly served the progress of inter-parliamentary co-operation, defence of common interests and strengthening of solidarity. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova observed that the two-day trilateral-format deliberations due in Baku will contribute to a continued deepening of the co-operation amongst our Parliaments.
Speaker of the Majlis of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Ziya Öztürkler thanked Azerbaijan for her solidarity, support and brotherhood with, and support to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, proceeding to describe the inception of a Friendship Group for Northern Cyprus in the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan as an important step taken.
Head of the Türkiye-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group Şamil Ayrım brought up the significance of fu8rthering the relations between our friendly and brotherly countries also in the parliamentary dimension before stating his views upon strengthening the trilateral format further.
Opinions were also exchanged about other issues of shared interest at the meeting.
