Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Meets with Chairman of Foreign Relations Committee of Parliament of Georgia

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has met with Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament of Georgia Nikoloz Shamkharadze who is visiting in our country with the purpose of taking part in the 10th trilateral meeting of the Foreign Relations Committees of the Parliaments of Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Georgia.

The importance of the trilateral meeting was emphasised at the meeting, as was recalled that this co-operation format had been incepted in Baku in 2014 and the latest meeting of the Committees in Azerbaijan had taken place in Shusha in 2022. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova said that the trilateral relations of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye contribute to peace, stability, co-operation and economic development in the region.

Nikoloz Shamkharadze conveyed to the Speaker of the Milli Majlis the greetings of Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili.

Contentment was expressed in the course of the conversation with the current high level of links between Azerbaijan and Georgia; it was said that our countries’ co-operation continued with success also in the implementation of strategic projects in the region. The successful advancement of the relations between our countries also via the Parliaments was brought up as well; the important role of close contacts of the Speakers and Members of Parliament in a continued expansion of our relations was high-lit, too. It was said, besides, that our Parliaments co-operate bilaterally as well as in international parliamentary organisations.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova shared her thoughts about the situation established in the region and the new opportunities pursuant to the Washington Summit of August last year.

Nikoloz Shamkharadze, in turn, remarked that the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia would be useful for all the three countries of the region before he emphasised Georgia’s support for this process.

The meeting also saw an exchange of opinions about other matters of shared interest.
