The parliamentary delegation led by Chairman of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Saqr Ghobash, visiting in our country, came to the Milli Majlis on 30 October.

After the guests had acquainted themselves with the Parliament’s plenary chamber, they went to the Heydar Aliyev Museum at the Milli Majlis, and Saqr Ghobash signed the Memorial book there.

Then, there was a tête-à-tête meeting between Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova and Chairman of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates Saqr Ghobash, after which followed a meeting of the delegations in the expanded format.

The Speaker of the Milli Majlis expressed the appreciation of the high-level representation of the United Arab Emirates at the International Parliamentary Conference held on 29 October and dedicated to the 30^th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and of the substantive address that Saqr Ghobash had delivered at it.

Praising highly the first official visit of the Chairman of the UAE Federal National Council to our country, the Speaker of the Parliament voiced a confidence that this visit would contribute importantly to the on-going strengthening of the friendly relations between the two countries, expansion of co-operation opportunities and deepening of the inter-parliamentary ties. Sahiba Gafarova recalled fondly her official visit to the United Arab Emirates in May this year and underlined the importance of the meetings and negotiations held during the visit as well as of the Memorandum of Understanding about co-operation signed between the Parliaments.

Satisfaction was voiced at the meeting with the dynamic and comprehensive progress of the inter-state relations; they emphasised the high level of the relations between the countries, which are bound with historical, religious and cultural roots. The role of the active political dialogue was high-lit especially, and it was said that reciprocal visits and summit as well as high-level meetings and the documents signed were essential in this process. It was further said that the relations between the two countries had risen to the level of strategic partnership as a result of the joint endeavours of the countries’ leaders. At the same time, it was stressed that, alongside many other areas, the joint major renewable energy projects were instrumental in the expansion of various co-operation areas.

Chairman of the UAE Federal National Council Saqr Ghobash expressed contentment with his first official visit to Azerbaijan and participation in the International Parliamentary Conference before pointing out that his country attached a great importance to furthering the relations with Azerbaijan. The guest shared his impressions of the meeting with President Ilham Aliyev held as part of the visit. As he put it, the relationship of the Heads of State, which are based on the principles of mutual respect, confidence and sincere friendship, promote a continued deepening of the ties between our countries and peoples. The guest praised the high-level political and economic connections and mentioned the importance of deepening the co-operation in the cultural and humanitarian areas.

There was an exchange of opinions during the conversation about the current state and growth prospects of the inter-parliamentary links. They reviewed issues related to continuing the development of the relations based on the Memorandum of Understanding about co-operation signed between the legislative bodies.
