Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Meets with Deputy Chairman of National Assembly of Cambodia

On 29 October, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia Sot Vong who is visiting our country to participate in the International Parliamentary Conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Azerbaijan Republic.

The high level of relations between the Parliaments of Azerbaijan and Cambodia was high-lit at the meeting. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova mentioned her high appreciation of the participation of parliamentary delegations from friendly countries in this conference, one of great importance for Azerbaijan.

The Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly of Cambodia mentioned the successful organisation of the International Parliamentary Conference and conveyed the congratulations from Khuon Sudari and Chairman of the Senate Hun Sen.

Contentment was voiced during the meeting with the progress of the relations between our Parliaments. The Speaker of the Milli Majlis recalled fondly her own visit to Cambodia for the session of the General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Association and the meetings held during the visit, as well as her conversation with Chairwoman of the National Assembly of Cambodia Khuon Sudari during a working visit to Malaysia. She added that those contacts had promoted a continued deepening of the linkage between our Parliaments.

It was further said that the Memorandum of Understanding which our Parliaments had signed in 2022 provided a solid foundation for the continued development of our relations, and that there are new opportunities in that area. They also underscored the importance of co-operation amongst the Parliaments’ friendship groups and various committees. Besides, the significance of the co-operation in international parliamentary organisation was emphasised – including the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, the Asian Parliamentary Assembly and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Association.

The meeting also saw an exchange of opinions about other topics of shared interest.
