Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Meets with Chairman of Senate of Parliament of Romania

On 28 October Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with Mircea Abrudean, Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Romania who is visiting in our country in order to participate in the International Parliamentary Conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova who welcomed the guest cordially said then that his second visit to our country within the six months past is a vivid token of the dynamic advancement of the relations between Azerbaijan and Romania. The Speaker of the Milli Majlis emphasised the significance of the International Parliamentary Conference, which is being held in the context of 2025 having been declared ‘The Year of Constitution and Sovereignty’ as decreed by Mr President Ilham Aliyev. As she put it, this Conference is an extension of the events that the Parliament had been conducting during the year, and it brings together the parliamentarians of the friendly countries. The Speaker thanked Mircea Abrudean for his participation in the Conference.
The successful advancement of the strategic partnership relations between Azerbaijan and Romania was underlined at the meeting. It was said that high-level visits and meetings play a substantial role in the strengthening of the bilateral ties whilst the numerous documents signed make up a solid legal foundation for this co-operation. It was further remarked that the export of Azerbaijani gas to Romania as part of the energy co-operation contributed dramatically to the energy security of that country. Also, the importance of broadening the co-operation in education, science and culture, and the inter-regional co-operation was high-lit at the meeting.
The progress of the inter-parliamentary links was brought up with contentment during the conversation. Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova said that the relations between our states generated sound opportunities to continue developing the co-operation between the legislative bodies as well. It was said that the activity of the parliamentary friendship groups and reciprocal visits of parliamentary leadership and MPs promoted the strengthening of the bonds.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova also addressed at the meeting the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia. She stressed the importance of the initialling of the peace agreement in Washington, D.C., underlined the special significance of peace and stability for the region and broached the gravitas of the trust-building process and, within the same topicality, informed the visitor of her meeting with the chairman of the Parliament of Armenia.
Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Romania Mircea Abrudean thanked for the warm reception and offered congratulations on the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan. He touched upon the importance of the strategic partnership ties between Azerbaijan and Romania, mentioning also the presence of extensive opportunities to develop co-operation in the energy, transport, economic and other fields. Besides, the guests voiced congratulations on the achievements in the normalisation process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, saying that he trusted that this process would serve to establish firm peace in the region.
Various ways to develop the inter-parliamentary co-operation in the context of various committees were discussed, and there was an exchange about deepening the co-operation under the aegis of international parliamentary organisations; other matters of shared interest were broached at the meeting as well.
