Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with a delegation led by Chairman of the Standing Committee of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) Chung Eui-yong on 16 October.

Saying that Azerbaijan attaches particular importance to the furtherance of the political ties with the Asian countries, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova remarked that the ICAPP serves as a most crucial mechanism for multilateralism and solidarity in the region, playing the role of an important platform that promotes peace, security and co-operation in the Asian Region.

Information was provided during the conversation about the role of the New Azerbaijan Party as the country's ruling party, founded by the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and headed by President Ilham Aliyev, as well as about its active international ties. Contentment was witnessed with the New Azerbaijan Party's active and successful representation in the International Conference of Asian Political Parties, and the importance of events held within the framework of co-operation between the sides was duly noted. The holding of such international events in this series as the 4th meeting of the Asian Cultural Council (ACC) of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), themed ‘From National Diversity to Global Solidarity: The Role of Culture in the New World Order’ in Baku, organised by the New Azerbaijan Party, delivers an important contribution to strengthening dialogue between political parties and cultural institutions of various countries as well as to deepening mutual understanding and developing co-operation that is based on common values.

Chairman of the ICAPP Standing Committee Chung Eui-yong mentioned the special attention that the Organisation he is heading pays to the relations with Azerbaijan before underlining the progress of the existing relations with the ruling party of our country.

The conversation had an exchange of opinions regarding the prospects for the further development of the co-operation between the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, established on the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev and currently chaired by the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, and the ICAPP, as well as about the expansion of inter-parliamentary ties in the Asian Region, deepening of mutual understanding and other matters of shared interest.
