Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Meets Speaker of Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan

The visiting delegation led by Speaker of Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov called at the Milli Majlis on 16 July. Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova welcomed the guests.

First, the Speaker of Halk Maslahaty acquainted himself with the Plenary Chamber of the Milli Majlis. The guests then visited the Heydar Aliyev Memorial Hall where they reviewed the exhibits telling of the different periods of the life and political activities of the Azerbaijani people’s National Leader Heydar Aliyev. Speaker of Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov wrote down heartfelt words in the memorial book.

The parties had an enlarged-format meeting thereafter.

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova voiced confidence that this visit will contribute to the advancement and strengthening of the relations between our countries. 

The Speaker of the Milli Majlis recalled her official visit to Turkmenistan in December 2022 and mentioned with pleasure the meetings held during that visit. 

As the conversation went on, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova emphasised that the shared history, cultural, linguistic, religious, and family values as well as the similarities between our peoples form the foundation underpinning our countries’ relationship. It is on this solid foundation that extensive ties have been built between our states since their independence was won.

The exceptional role that reciprocal visits and high-level meetings play in strengthening and deepening the interstate relations was mentioned, too.

Then, the successful collaboration between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan in a number of international organisations was brought up. Besides, Azerbaijan’s high appreciation of the unwavering Turkmen backing for the initiatives motioned by Azerbaijan the Non-Aligned Movement Chair was underlined. 

It was also remarked at the meeting that the existing contractual and legal framework between our countries is extensive and encompasses political, economic, trade, humanitarian and other areas of our co-operation.

It was pointed out during the conversation that there is a firm foundation upon which to strengthen further the partnership between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan in the economic sphere; the progress of the energy, transport and otherwise co-operation was pointed up as well. Besides, the Speakers broached the special significance and character that the humanitarian co-operation of our countries had developed. As she talked about the interaction between our parliaments as one of the factors exerting significant benevolent influence upon the bilateral and multilateral relations of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova said that reciprocal visits and meetings of parliamentary speakers and legislators provide a considerable impetus to this co-operation. The interparliamentary friendship groups serve bridge the legislatures with their joint activities and collaboration.

They also addressed how expansion of the two national parliaments’ interaction, bilaterally and via international organisations, would bring about further deepening of the Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan relations.

Speaker of Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov shared his excellent impressions from the meeting with President Ilham Aliyev and the discussions held in the course of this visit.

He also recalled Sahiba Gafarova’s visit to Turkmenistan in December 2022, saying that that visit had been very fruitful.  

Regarding the substantial contribution that our nations and states are making to global politics as members of the Turkic Family, the guest again congratulated the Azerbaijani side on the high standards set by the COP29 organisation in Baku and the fact that tremendously important matters had been discussed at that conference.

Also, the guest shared his views upon regional issues, gender matters, youth policy, economic ties, the workings of the Inter-Governmental Commission, parliamentary diplomacy, inter-parliamentary dialogue and other subjects. 

The meeting, besides, had an exchange of views upon further matters of shared interest.
