It was pointed out at the meeting that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to the development of bilateral and multilateral relations with Slovenia based on friendship, mutual respect and mutually beneficial co-operation. It was also said that there are promising prospects for the further development of ties in various fields. The importance of high-level mutual visits and continuous political dialogue was particularly highlighted in the context.

As was said, the two countries have significant potential to develop economic ties and expand mutual trade, as well as to co-operate in the fields of transport, green energy and other areas, in addition to the existing energy co-operation. Collaboration in education, science, and culture, as well as the joint organisation of cultural events, has a key role in bringing the peoples of the two countries closer together.

The parliaments’ co-operation was brought up as one of the crucial factors behind the progress of the bilateral relations, whereas the Speakers’ and MPs’ reciprocal visits were mentioned as being of utmost importance for strengthening the inter-parliamentary co-operation.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova underlined the considerable part that the friendship groups play in the progress of the inter-parliamentary connexions. She described the friendship groups as those bridging the parliaments and promoting regular contacts, dialogue and exchange of opinions.

Leader of the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group Bojan Čebela passed on to the Speaker of the Milli Majlis the greetings of the Speaker of the Parliament of Slovenia Urška Klakočar Zupančič before sharing pleasant impressions from the trip to Azerbaijan. Also, he commented on the significance of continuing the strengthening of the co-operation between our parliaments.

The guest emphasised the high standards set by Azerbaijan’s holding and hosting the COP29 and congratulated the Azerbaijani side on the successful conduct of the Conference. As he said, Slovenia was also represented at the COP29 Parliamentary Meeting.

It was said then that the people of Slovenia revered the memory of Mehdi Huseynzade (Mikhailo) who died heroically in the struggle for that country’s liberation from the Fascism. As the guest stressed, that was a manifestation of the friendship of our peoples.
