The Chairman of the Milli Majlis Committee for Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology Sadig Gurbanov announced at the committee meeting that was held on 28 February that its agenda consisted of two items. Namely, those were the second-reading amendments to the Republic of Azerbaijan Water Supply and Drainage Law and a set of amendments to a number of existing laws of the Republic of Azerbaijan in connexion with the implementation of the Food Security Law No. 523-VIQ of 5 May 2022.

The Head of the Committee remarked as he was presenting the draft amendments to the Water Supply and Water Disposal Law that the document had been considered in detail during the first reading and that the issues raised had been clarified.

The Bill envisages improvement of the legal framework for connecting construction projects to water supply systems, as well as implementation of the proposed connection rules to protect the rights of existing consumers and improve the sustainability of the system to provide quality water supply services. Optimisation of connection of economic entities to water supply and sewerage systems is also envisaged, and so is increasing the transparency of relations between service organisations and citizens and other consumers. In addition, the draft law includes amendments related to ensuring transparency of tariffs and connection requests.

After that Sadig Gurbanov presented a set of amendments to a number of existing laws of the Republic of Azerbaijan in connection with the implementation of the Food Security Law No. 523-VIQ of 5 May 2022. Those amendments are of harmonising nature, he said.

The Chairman of the State Water Resources Agency of Azerbaijan Zaur Mikayilov who was present at the committee meeting spoke about the importance of improving the water sector in accordance with modern requirements.

Both Bills tabled at the committee meeting were cleared for the presentation at a plenary sitting of the Milli Majlis.
