Chairman of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (GNAT) Numan Kurtulmuş has made a statement on the resolution adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) to decline the ratification of the credentials of the Azerbaijani Delegation.

The statement expresses regret about the non-confirmation of the credentials of the Azerbaijani Delegation to the PACE. It is noted that Azerbaijan, a member of the Council of Europe since 2001, by her work and co-operation over the past period has made a significant contribution to the implementation of the basic principles of the Organisation, as well as has played a leading role in the realisation of the most important missions of today, such as the preservation of cultural diversity and promotion of intercultural dialogue. The adopted decision means the exclusion of a Council of Europe Member State from PACE activities.

The document further states that multilateral diplomacy should not lose its strength and stance at the time of increasing geopolitical tensions, political confrontations and conflicts around the world. The PACE ought to be be a platform for dialogue and co-operation but not for conflicts.

The statement communicates the call of the GNAT for the unequivocal defence of the principles upheld by the PACE, for it to be a uniting rather than a dividing platform, and for affirmation of the credentials of the delegation that represents the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

In conclusion, the statement expresses a confidence that the decision not to ratify the credentials of the Azerbaijani Delegation will be reviewed as soon as practicable.
