Deputy Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Chairman of the parliamentary Committee for Public Associations and Religious Entities Fazail Ibrahimli had a meeting on 8 February with the Brazilian Senators Nelson Trad Filho and Carlos Viana who are in Azerbaijan to monitor the presidential election that were held on 7 February.

Welcoming the Senators, Fazail Ibrahimli expressed pleasure at their visit to Azerbaijan on these historic days. He proceeded to inform the guests of the achievements of our country, her having restored her own territorial integrity and sovereignty, the transparent and democratic presidential election in Azerbaijan on 7 February and the unity of People and State established in the country. Besides, Mr Ibrahimli shared thoughts about the relations between Azerbaijan and Brazil and about the prospects of our inter-parliamentary connexions.

Senator Nelson Trad Filho of the Brazilian Parliament voiced appreciation for the warm welcome extended to his colleague and himself before commenting on citizens’ activity at the 7 February election and having secured the attention which the voters had paid to the electoral process. He congratulated the Azerbaijani side on the successful conduct of the ballot.

There was also an exchange of opinions about promotion of inter-parliamentary relations and interaction in education as well as other fields.

The Head of our working group for the inter-parliamentary relations Azerbaijan-Brazil Mushfig Mammadli, the same group’s member Vugar Bayramov, MP Anatoliy Rafailov and other officials were present at the meeting as well.

The Head of the Milli Majlis delegation to the OSCE PA Azay Guliyev had a meeting on 8 February with the delegation led by Deputy President of the Parliament of the Republic of Serbia Sandra Božić who had come to Azerbaijan for the monitoring of the extraordinary presidential election here.

Azay Guliyev greeted the guests and indicated Azerbaijan’s interest in a comprehensive promotion of the relations with Serbia. He also thanked the Serbian MPs for their having accepted the invitation to come over and monitor the presidential ballot. Then, Mr Guliyev commented on the importance of co-operating in international organisations and the significance of parliamentary diplomacy.

Mrs Božić spoke about the friendly ties and co-operation between our countries before saying that she had been very much pleased with the conduct of the election in Azerbaijan in keeping with democratic principles and in accordance with the Law. She also mentioned that the Serbian monitors had been observing the process in Khankendi and Shusha.

The Head of the Azerbaijan-Serbia inter-parliamentary relations working group Malahat Ibrahimghizi and MP Nurlan Hasanov who were taking part in the meeting as well talked about the prospects of our bilateral co-operation.

The other officials who attended the meeting were the Serbian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Dragan Vladisavljević and Serbian MPs Dušan Marić and Milimir Vujadinović.
