Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting on 6 December with the visiting delegation led by the MP for Istanbul and Deputy Chairman for Foreign Affairs of Türkiye‘s Justice and Development Party (AK Parti) Zafer Sırakaya.

Zafer Sırakaya conveyed to the Speaker of Milli Majlis the greetings of Chairman of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Numan Kurtulmuş. Sahiba Gafarova, in turn, asked to convey her greetings to the head of the GNAT.

The successful advancement of the Azerbaijani-Turkish ties guided by the slogan of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev ‘One nation, two states’ was mentioned during the conversation. The friendly and brotherly relations of the Heads of State create wide opportunities for a dynamic development of the bilateral relations, and those have reached their highest level, that is, that of an alliance, thanks to the political will and determination of the leaders of our countries, it was further said at the meeting.

It was then emphasised that these relations conditioned a further expansion of inter-parliamentary co-operation. The presence of a paragraph on developing the inter-parliamentary ties in the Shusha Declaration on Allied Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Türkiye which defines the goals of further growth of the Azerbaijani-Turkish relations and serves as a road map, too, speaks of the intention of our states to develop co-operation in the field of legislation as well. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova recalled the multi-faceted co-operation between the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan and the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye then. Our MPs collaborate fruitfully in the bilateral, trilateral and multilateral formats, Mrs Gafarova added.

It was also said that the progress of co-operation between our brotherly countries’ state departments and divisions promoted a further strengthening of the relationship and that, in this sense, there is demonstrably great importance  vested in the co-operation of our countries’ ruling parties, namely, the New Azerbaijan Party and the Justice and Development Party. The strengthening of ties between the parties contributes significantly to the progress of the inter-state relations, too. The Parliament of Azerbaijan supports the strengthening of the inter-party linkage, said Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova.

Mrs Gafarova and Mr Sırakaya also exchanged views on the current situation in the region. Recalling the existence of certain tensions in the world, tendencies towards Islamophobia and double standards in international relations, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova said that we would witness a biased, lope-sided attitude towards Azerbaijan and Turkey in some organisations. The Milli Majlis Speaker then stressed the importance of a joint struggle against such tendencies, underlining that the Azerbaijani-Turkish relations served stability, peace and co-operation in the region.

Sahiba Gafarova said also as she was commenting on the common history, culture and values of Azerbaijan and Türkiye that it was important to join forces to promote family values as one of the biggest ones uniting our fraternal peoples.

Deputy Chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party and Head of the NAP Central Staff Tahir Budagov took part in the meeting as well.

Then, there was an exchange of opinions about other topics of shared interest.
